well, “Team Always Blows it on the Last Question” seems to have a little trouble living up to its name because for the 3rd time we’ve been known as “Team Always Blows it on the Last Question” - we haven’t. hmm… interesting. here’s how it went down.
last night at Bar-nackles, we sucked. i mean, bad. we were awful. but luckily, so was everyone else. there were some very tough questions last night. i can’t remember most of them but i do remember that they were challenging. there was a lot of debating going on at our table and a lot of me saying, “we got to answer… we’ve got to put something”. as Matt so eloquently put it at the end of the night, “That was intense.” and was it ever.
we crossed into the second round in 2nd place with 28 points - we got 3 out of the 4 answers on the half-time question. in the second round we pretty much self-destructed. we missed many 6 and 4 point questions. we thought we were toast. crazy thing was, at the end of round 2, we were still in 2nd place - 48 points. so we went into the final question 13 points behind the 1st place team.
Final Question: put these daytime television talk shows in order by date they premiered.
Oprah, The Rosie O’Donnell Show, Montel Williams, The View
immediately, Jeremy whispered in my ear (which was a little weird to begin with) “Oprah, Montel, Rosie, the View” - which is what i was thinking anyway, but not because i have ever watched any of those shows… …
so we got the question right, but the night was not over. because we got the question right and wagered 15 points on it, and so did the team that we were tied with, we had to go to sudden death tiebreaker. the team that got closest to the right answer would win. oh, and we had 60 seconds to answer.
Tiebreaker Question: in what year did the Jerry Springer show debut?
our answer: 1991 the other team: 1990
correct answer: September 20, 1991
amazing… we thought we were down for the count and all of a sudden we were walking out of Barnacles with $25 house cash for next week. incredible night. i still can’t believe we won when we did as badly as we did.
oh and as a side note: i’m very thankful that Miami’s dreadful football season is over - but what’s with the basketball team?
