well, “Team Always Blows it on the Last Question” seems to have a little trouble living up to its name because for the 3rd time we’ve been known as “Team Always Blows it on the Last Question” - we haven’t. hmm… interesting. here’s how it went down.

last night at Bar-nackles, we sucked. i mean, bad. we were awful. but luckily, so was everyone else. there were some very tough questions last night. i can’t remember most of them but i do remember that they were challenging. there was a lot of debating going on at our table and a lot of me saying, “we got to answer… we’ve got to put something”. as Matt so eloquently put it at the end of the night, “That was intense.” and was it ever.

we crossed into the second round in 2nd place with 28 points - we got 3 out of the 4 answers on the half-time question. in the second round we pretty much self-destructed. we missed many 6 and 4 point questions. we thought we were toast. crazy thing was, at the end of round 2, we were still in 2nd place - 48 points. so we went into the final question 13 points behind the 1st place team.

Final Question: put these daytime television talk shows in order by date they premiered.
Oprah, The Rosie O’Donnell Show, Montel Williams, The View

immediately, Jeremy whispered in my ear (which was a little weird to begin with) “Oprah, Montel, Rosie, the View” - which is what i was thinking anyway, but not because i have ever watched any of those shows… …

so we got the question right, but the night was not over. because we got the question right and wagered 15 points on it, and so did the team that we were tied with, we had to go to sudden death tiebreaker. the team that got closest to the right answer would win. oh, and we had 60 seconds to answer.

Tiebreaker Question: in what year did the Jerry Springer show debut?

our answer: 1991 the other team: 1990

correct answer: September 20, 1991

amazing… we thought we were down for the count and all of a sudden we were walking out of Barnacles with $25 house cash for next week. incredible night. i still can’t believe we won when we did as badly as we did.

oh and as a side note: i’m very thankful that Miami’s dreadful football season is over - but what’s with the basketball team?

wow, what a night for Team “Always Blows it on the Last Question”. it seems that when that is our team name, we don’t blow it on the last question. interesting…

anyway, we didn’t do so hot last night. we had a slim team. there were only seven of us and Jeremy couldn’t be there until about the start of the 2nd half so we were down a member for half the game. we only missed 1 question through the first half - which was a hard question. the first questions of the rounds were tough last night! anyway, round 2 was a completely different story. we were in 2nd place going into the 2nd half and it went downhill from there, so we thought. apparently, it went downhill for everybody. we came out of the 2nd half (after blowing all 3 questions in round 6) only 2 points behind third place. we knew we had to risk the 15 points but luckily it was a question that i knew…

put the following songs in order they were released from earliest to most recent:
jump, jive and wail (brian setzer orchestra)
jump for my love (the pointer sisters)
jumpin’ jumpin’ (destiny’s child)
jump around (house of pain)

the correct order (and the order that i told everybody was correct): jump for my love - jump around - jump, jive and wail - jumpin’ jumpin’

we got the final question right and ended up 2 points behind 3rd place for the game. so, sadly we didn’t place, but we didn’t blow it on the last question. i think i’ll try to convince my team to stick with that name because we always seem to get the last question right.

interesting side note: there was a new team on the block last night. not real sure of their name but they attempted to indict us on cheating at team trivia charges. now, i will admit that our team has used external resources in the past to gather information and by “using external resources to gather information” i mean, we used external resources to prepare our minds for acquiring the necessary information needed to make an educated guess at a particular question that had just been posed. this new team, who we had never seen before even went as far as to take a digital picture of one of our team members checking his email from work on his phone. then, they proceeded to transport the camera up to mr. dj and show the picture to him.

now, i would say that based on our performance last night (missing 6 question and completely bombing on round 6 all together) the cheating allegations are completely bogus. i stand by my team members and our ability to use all knowledge that has been imparted on us. as we have come from all different backgrounds and majors and secondary education institutions, we have a diverse set of knowledge. we have all been graced with knowledge in many areas - some areas more estranged than others - but we use the knowledge that we have been able to retain through schooling and experiences to the fullest extent and i am appalled that these “rookies” would attempt to call-out my team of veritable veterans of Team Trivia. ridiculous.
